Our Philosophy

At Azor, everything begins with a love of craft and storytelling. Whether it’s a diary or a handbag, I design with intention—pieces that hold space for your stories, journeys, and everyday life.

Meet the Maker: Taryn

Hi, I’m Taryn—the heart behind Azor. I studied Fine Art at the Michaelis School of Fine Art (UCT), majoring in photography. But my real creative journey began in a bookbinding class, where I discovered a love for the process of crafting books by hand—making paper, stitching bindings, designing covers. I was hooked.

Where It All Began

During my art studies, I spent hours at the campus bindery creating handmade books. I always knew I’d return to that love. Years later, in the quiet of the pandemic, my husband opened a bookstore—and I saw a gap. I couldn’t find a diary that felt right. Most were too structured, filled with prompts I didn’t want. So I made my own: a space for everyday thoughts, creative bursts, or simply wandering words. The response has been amazing, and I continue to refine the diaries each year.

A Love for Leather & Legacy

Handbags have always been a quiet obsession. As a kid, I stitched my own from scraps. In 2012, my dad gifted me a vintage leather sewing machine. I started creating bags but soon realized my strength was in design, not production. That led me to Italy—armed with some Italian and a strong vision—to find the right factory.
My first design was inspired by a handbag passed down through three generations in my family. That heirloom spirit lives on in every piece—especially our La Luce bags, made in Italy in our signature Aquamarine color.

Rooted in Cape Town

More recently, I’ve been producing the Half Moon bag locally, working with a small Cape Town factory and an incredibly skilled team. My goal is to keep making beautifully crafted, long-lasting pieces—both here and abroad.
